Who is this service for?
The Standard Proofreading Service is tailored to authors who do not speak English as their first language but are submitting their writing to an academic journal or institution with strict language requirements. Even if your document contains many errors or has been rejected due to poor English in the past, we can ensure that your writing will sound like it was written by a native English speaker. For most authors, the Standard Proofreading Service is sufficient to ensure that their writing is not rejected due to poor English.
What’s included in this service?
When you order the Standard Proofreading Service, your editor will fix all language-related issues in your document. In addition to fixing any technical issues like spelling and punctuation errors, your editor will rephrase grammatically acceptable sentences so that they sound more natural to English readers.
However, sentences or paragraphs whose intended meaning cannot be determined will be flagged for you to fix. Therefore, if your English writing skills are very limited or if you relied heavily on tools like Google Translate when producing your manuscript, you might consider upgrading to the Full Proofreading Service.
Specific errors that will be fixed by your editor include:
Egregious grammatical errors (e.g., incorrect subject-verb agreement)
Incorrect choice of words
Weak, missing, or unnecessary transitional phrases
Sentences or paragraphs that are too long
Wordiness, vague phrases, weak adjectives, and other advanced language issues
Sentences that are grammatically correct but do not sound natural to English readers
Inconsistencies (e.g., if a term is sometimes abbreviated and other times spelled out)
Any other errors that might harm the chances of your work being accepted, including those that require heavy editing to resolve
Specific errors that will be flagged by your editor for you to address on your own include:
Sentences with incomprehensible meanings
After your document has been proofread, you will receive two Microsoft Word documents. One document will have Word’s Track Changes feature enabled so that you can review all the changes made throughout the proofreading process. The other file will contain a clean document, allowing you to see what the finished product looks like.
Also, upon your request, you will be provided with a proofreading certificate at no extra charge.
